On 21 March 2013, then Prime Minister Julia Gillard apologised on behalf of the Australian Government to people affected by forced adoption or removal policies and practices. The national apology was delivered in the Great Hall of Parliament House, Canberra.
In October 2012, Julia Gillard rose to speak in the House of Representatives in reply to a motion from the Opposition Leader. Now widely described as the ‘Misogyny Speech’, it has since been viewed over 2.5 million times.
Julia Gillard was elected to the Federal electoral division of Lalor at the 1998 election. She remained the Member for Lalor until retiring from the Parliament in 2013.
